Installing and Configuring the Gmap and Location Modules
In part 1 of this 2 part video tutorial, I install and configure the gmap module and location module to association locations with nodes. I also create a custom content type that has locations enabled and enable the location block so that the node has its own google map of the location.
In the part 2 of the video tutorial, I create a postal code search that returns nodes wtihin a given proximity using views.

Thank you for the helpful videos! I have one question though, when I click on the google link that shows the map on the google maps website, it does not show the address in a readable way. It shows the coordinates and the address on a single line. Is there something I need to do to fix this?

I've created Taxonomy, and tried that route as well, but the GMap will not show up.
I've been Googling since I posted, trying to find a solution, but to no avail.
Everything else works... but I can't get a Google map to show up.

Maybe a mic to capture the audio would offer a better sound quality. A decent headset will do trick i think.
Please note i'm not critizing or complaining in any way !!

Hey RS,
thanks for the feedback! You're definitely right about the audio, it's something I know I have to fix with the videos. It's a little better in the newer ones as I bought an HD webcam with a better mic but I still have some issues to tackle with my soundcard.
Happy New Year,

Is it possible to display a Google Map on a Drupal page with locations that the author enter into the site? I've been trying to find a tutorial for this and I'm not having any luck. I'm wondering if this is even possible.
Thanks in advance for your help!
Hi Melissa, sorry for my
Hi Melissa,
sorry for my late response, this one slipped through the cracks... not exactly sure what you mean. Do you have users with permissions to create content on your site? If they have permissions to create nodes with location fields, why couldn't you display them on a google map -- unless i'm missing something, it seems pretty straight forward with the Location and Gmap modules...

Great tutorial. Thanks.
One question:
Is there any way to set the location using the information provided by the google bar?
--> Config/Gmap/Map Behavior flags/"googlebar : Enable Google Bar"
I mean, use the google bar to make the search and use that information without having to fill any field or having to make clicks + zoom + dive + zoom etc. in the map.
Thanks a lot.

Hi,
I just went through all these steps and was easily able to follow your directions, but I got to the end and went to 'blocks' to change it from 'disabled' to 'content' and i dont have a 'content' option. I have a 'content top' and 'content bottom' and I chose 'content top' and still nothing was displayed on my node view.
help? you can message me directly if possible or feedback here.
thank you
Yeah, when configuring your
Yeah, when configuring your blocks, whether or not you have content, content top, content bottom, etc. is all dependent on your theme. The theme I was using just happened to provide me with a region called content - this could be something different for you.
When you enable the block, you need to make sure that the node you are viewing has a location associated with it, otherwise the block will have nothing to display... Other than that, it should work. Let me know if it doesn't and we can try to work through it.

I have followed both of your video tutorials, using the most recent dev version for 6, but the search function isn't displaying any results, or just displaying all of the results for 0 miles. Not sure if anyone is having the same issue.
